8000 väskor till Försvarsmakten
Military
How long does it take to source over 20 different materials that meet the strict requirements set by the Armed Forces AND assemble them into 8,000 high-quality bags? TEKONF delivered the final order right on deadline – in just eight months.
TEKONF has extensive experience delivering products to the defence sector. Being part of a major procurement process – their largest to date – was therefore not unusual. Nor was winning it. But delivering their largest order to date, against an extremely tight deadline, was a real challenge. The Armed Forces set very high standards, and so does TEKONF. Quality assurance was rigorous. There were many potential pitfalls, not least because each bag consists of 20 different materials that all needed to be ordered, delivered, and assembled.
“The scale of the order required us to think bigger. We worked with various subcontractors across Asia, Europe, and North America to secure raw materials of the right quality – and as quickly as the order demanded.”
Björn Rimmö, Sales Manager at TEKONF and lead project manager for the delivery.
20 Different Materials in a Single Bag
With so many different components, there was plenty of room for things to go wrong. Each material not only had to meet high-quality standards but also had to be manufactured in sufficient quantities to meet production needs. All materials had to pass both internal tests and third-party testing, meeting requirements for colour fastness, tensile strength, and more – from fabrics to straps and buckles.
“We have drawn on our extensive experience. Thanks to close communication and excellent collaboration with our partners and subcontractors, we were able to meet all delivery milestones and complete the order on schedule,” continues Björn Rimmö.
It took 35 seamstresses over four months to sew all 8,000 bags. Each bag was meticulously stitched and quality-checked. They have now been delivered and are ready to serve the Armed Forces.
Examples of Materials Used in the Bags
- Outer layer: CORDURA fabric, a durable and abrasion-resistant nylon material commonly used in outdoor products.
- Coated polyester fabric: PVC-coated for extra durability.
- TPU fabric (thermoplastic polyurethane): An advanced plastic material combining flexibility, durability, and mouldability.
- Velcro straps: Three different types of Velcro, 25–38 mm wide.
- Buckles: Various types for optimal functionality.
- Padding: For example, in shoulder straps for enhanced comfort.
